Baoli, I agree with Cy, with one exception: sometimes (however infrequently) you may have to add water even when it's humid simply because of passive evaporation. Also, if it really is that humid at UW indoors, and you are sure the whole system isn't needed, unplug the unit. Don't just stop adding water. If you do that, when the humidifier kicks on, you'll be dehumidifying things further, causing the humidifier to stay on longer, causing more dehumidification, etc. I would bet that the units really do run year round there at UW, and that you should continue to use the full system all the time.
