Easier than the American system? You must be kidding! One lifetime ago =
when I was a hydrogeological consultant, a basic concept I dealt with =
was the transmissivity of an aquifer. In rough terms it is a measure of =
an aquifer's ability to produce water. The common metric units for =
transmissivity is m2/s (meter squared per second). Get ready for this =
one......... The American units are gallon/day/foot.

Now you can picture in your mind m2/s, but just try to picture in your =
mind gallon/day/foot!

Try juggling those units around and very quickly you will see the =
utility and simplicity of the metric system.
