Essex tuning pin coils

Hello list,

I tuned a new Essex grand today, the first Essex I've ever worked on.  I
noticed that all of the tuning pins had the standard 3 coils, except in the
high treble section, where they all had 4 coils.  Was this done
intentionally, and if so, why?  Or was someone at the factory just not
paying attention that day?
