IRegarding Matuscheck piano I can contribute 2 bits of information. Before immigre ting to usa, this hungarian immigrant worked in Vienna, his name was spelled Mathauscheck. As,a tip #2:pay attention to the shape of their sharp keys, they have unusual shape toward the fallboard, next time i will see it-i'll take a picture.Best regards.Isaac P/S. Hey,joe! How does that huge tuning hammer work for tuning square pianos? After you retire-it will go back to me and then to PTG museum.. that's a deal!! ----- Original Message ----- From: Joe Garrett To: pianotech Sent: 11/28/04 3:30:28 PM Subject: Re: Mathuscheck Cocked Hat Grand Pianos! Conrad asked: "I've got a couple pictures of a Chickering cocked hat at the Smithsonian (125/159k), but isn't the Mathusek earlier?" Conrad, Not knowing the age of the Chickering would make that a bit difficult to say.<G> However, this piano's # is 1272 which is pre-1865, where the numbers start in the Atas @#1500. I wish Jack would jump in here.<G> Jack! You Out There?!!! Hmmm? It seems we all have our spellings of Mathushek. (Including me!<G>) Would you mind posting the picture(s) you have, so some of the younger types know what the hell we're talking about? Best Regards, Joe Garrett, R.P.T.
