Thanks for all the info Paul.  That sounds like a good setup.

One more question before this thread dies.  What size slot do people
cut?  Or in other words, how much clearance do you allow for the
knuckle core?

Measure the core thickness of the knuckle and use a cutter a couple of
thousandths oversize.  This allows a little space for alignment, variations
in core thickness, and a good glue line.  A tight fit leaves no room for
glue.  The few cores that are too thick can be quickly filed to fit.
