A few months ago I posted several questions about rebuilding a 50 year old Pratt Read action in a French & Sons console. It was full of brittle plastic parts and quite unplayable. I had never done this kind of work before as I am only about a year into this business. The piano belongs to a friend who could not afford to buy a newer one. Also, it was her Grandmother's so there was that whole sentimental thing. Well, in my zeal to learn and relative naivete I agreed to rebuild it for the cost of the parts. I was only able to work on it sporadically as I could free up the time. Well, I finished it yesterday. All plastic gone. Tuned with nary a broken string. In great shape? No. But my friend has a piano that she can play and I have gained a tremendous amount of experience. I said all that to say this, I do not believe that I could have accomplished such an undertaking without the guidance of several of you on this list. To those I say, THANK YOU for taking time from loftier topics (many of which are still over my head) to help a rookie. There are few things more satisfying than a job well done. BTW, that's the one and only time I'll do a job like that without getting paid :-) Tim Cochran Piano Technician
