Hi List,

Today, I had a second try at Yamaha spring cord replacement (in the last two
weeks), using a combination of Tom Driscoll and Tom Cole's previously posted
methods. First time was a little over four hours. Today's version was a
little more than three. I've learned a few more techniques to make it go a bit
faster, and by the end of today's exercise, I think I pretty much had a handle on
things. I expect it to be done in 2 or 2 1/2 next time. I had a couple of
extra minor details to fix, and I got the cord kinked up while looping it
around the sizer and spent many extra minutes unravelling it.

It seems faster to do it this way than to replace flanges, though I have
never done a total flange replacement. Joe G., I stand by my estimate of 3 hours
for the labor guide, if you were to factor in the Toms (Driscoll and Cole at
2 hours) of this world vs. the beginners(first timers at 4 hours +).

I would recommend that people try it. What you really need is action
cradles, and a comfortable, well-lit work area(with some good tunes), and proper
tools. I used a pin-vise with a center pin as an old-cord gouger, and it worked
well.
