Hello Liszt and Isaac You talk of: "We of course use center pins as reamers after having produced a rough zone with rolling between 2 medium or fine grit files. Usually the size goes up by 1 size when roughening." I use short lengths of core off-cuts from replacing Bass covereds. I first cut a suitable length - say 3" - put it in my Dremel chuck, bring one end to a gradual point, then use a fine broad file and support the other side with a suitable piece of wood, thin down the wire to required thickness. Rough it up the same way as you do, Mic it up and off you go. That's the only way to get piano wire thicker than 0.051" - and it comes free with every large grand Bass re-string.... Can't get better than that! What's more it doesn't suddenly bend "L" shaped on you. Regards from Sunny Sussex-by-the-Sea Michael G (UK)
