"There must be a ...better way...." Bandsaw? Yes, I realize there are many functions of the table saw that a band saw cannot do, but the point being that many cuts that are commonly done on a table saw can be done on a band saw, and many that cannot be done on a table saw can be done on a band saw. And the band saw is generally safer to use - not fully dummy-proof, but indeed much safer. A decent bandsaw is a must for a shop, IMHO. I have a table saw (Shop Smith), but I'll bet I only use it once or twice a year - I use it way more for buffing and horizontal drilling.
