This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment No, and there was no sign of discoloration or damage on the bar. It = really seems like an unlikely source. A lot of different things could = have been installed and removed since 1969... You know, the heat pattern would fit a light bulb a lot better than a DC = bar (which was at least 2" away from that panel). If someone had = dropped a light bulb inside, it would have rested right on the panel. = How big of a bulb would it take to char wood? --Cy-- ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Richard Cromwell=20 To: 'Pianotech'=20 Sent: Friday, December 10, 2004 9:41 PM Subject: RE: Scorch mark on inside of kneeboard: DC heater bar? Opened the lower = cabinet to check the bridges, and found a charred spot on the inside, = about 1.5" diameter, about 8" below the top edge of the panel. It was = circular, with indications of heat rising upwards from it, and was = absolutely charcoal in the center, burned in about 1/4" (I'm surprised = it didn't show through the panel). =20 Hanging right across from it was a typical 25W shiny chrome pushpin DC = bar, unplugged at the time. This is the only conceivable source for = heat coming from *inside* the piano -- yet why would it create such a = small heat spot? Do they get hot in one spot when they burn out, like a = fuse, perhaps? (I didn't check if the bar still works.) =20 That burn mark was very scary looking... =20 --Cy Shuster-- Bluefield, WV =20 ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
