---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment List On average I have paid between 1 to 3 thousand for these pianos & IMHO anything that old almost always needs a board. Mason & Hamlins dried their soundboards down to or below 4% e.m.c.prior to ribbing. Those numbers are concsitent with observations based on the average no. of cracks typically seen in these old beautys. I think they wanted a bunch of crown. Also it takes more compresion to crown a thicker board & many of these A's were .390 to .400 thick in the middle.
