Before the National convention I posed a problem with a clicking noise which seems to come from the bass cheek block when the action is shifting. There doesn't seem to be any more clearance between the action guide pin and the guide plate than on other pianos (that's a quantitative analysis--isn't it?). Thanks for your help on this; but the problem persists. I've semi-rebedded the keyframe, lubed everying this reduced most of the fore-aft lashing of the keyframe. While shifting, it now moves less than 1/16" fore-aft without being guided. Is this considered an acceptable amount???? I screwed in the screws at the dags at the rear of the action, checked springs, guides, pins to see that they are solidly mounted, checked clearance at the top of the shift lever. As suggested, next I'm considering adding brass tubing to the guide pins (+.008" to +.016" Dia); but in a way, that seems to be a bit of a kludge for a new piano (and I'm concerned that the customer often thinks the same way I do). Comments? Thanks once again for enduring the verbosity. Mark Ultsch Madison
