Harpsichord question

List,

Is there an optimum height for tuning pins on a harpsichord?
We have a Phillips, which is fine. But we also have a Martin
which is not! The Martin pins "look" a lot longer than the
Phillips but I'm not sure right now.

As of today, I have about 15+ tuning pins which are obviously
leaning waaaay forward on the Martin! I've already had one which
got so bad, it was no longer tunable. The fix was to remove the
pin and drive it in deeper and straighter. IMHO, I shouldn't be
having to do that with 15+ more pins! Should they all be driven
deeper to prevent this from continually happening?

A related question is should I check on how deep the holes are
or are they drilled all the way through like a grand? I've never
checked (yet) but I guess I'm going to have to but in the meantime,
can someone more experienced than me give me some "clues"? Right
now, I'm clueless! :-)

Thanks.
