It seems that the better sustain and clarity of the bridge agraffe is not due to the direction of the vibration, but simply because it provides a better termination (all metal) than the conventional bridge pin and wood termination. What do you think? An example of termination material differences: Most of you know I play Bass. One of my Basses is a Swedish Hagstrom. It originally had a wooden bridge, attached to a metal plate, seated on the Bass body. It was just fine, (tonally), for psuedo-upright bass sound. I replaced the bridge with brass. The sustain was greatly increased. Also, the sound was more pronounced, with better upper harmonics, that sounded better for modern style bass sound.
