stores to lay under stuff that I strip, then let the
solvent evaporate out of the resultant goop before

Hardly a conscientious disposal technique of hazardous waste in my
opinion. The sludge should be double bagged and brought to an
appropriate facility or saved for your community's hazardous waste
disposal day.
