Thanks again, Joe.  This helps a lot.  I'm definetly not going to recap the bridge.  I'm afraid I could have to be going for a new board.  (Strange, I have never seen varnish on bridges here.  In Bechstein pianos, even no graffite.)

| notches, all the time, with no ill effects. I think there is something else
| responsible for the lack of sustain/tone.
