If the glue rib joints fail there's little that the screws can do to make such a disaster any better. In the case of the 1990 style Bechstein boards, there's no need to duplicate the 18 mm deep rib set either. These boards almost always fail because they a so badly under-engineered. Make up a rib crowned board with deeper ribs and a cut-off, unless its intended to be a museum piece.
