Most seem to be of the impression that the hammer brings to the string its momentum and its elasticity. Yet many pianists assert that differeing touch techniques can cause tonal effects that infer something else as well. The only studies I know about can not confirm this, and rather point in the opposite direction. On the other hand a Russian acoustician points to a possible psychological effect here as well. But all this is rather the flip side of the coin I am most interested in for the time being... namely whether or not one can in any sense directly feel the hardness of the hammer at the key. Im beat now... so I will try and check out the rest of your post in the morning. Cheers RicB -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F.
