Warranties

Hi Wayne,

Warranties are in place to limit the liability of the seller/manufacturer.
Of course marketing departments take that information and turn it into a
"feature".

The example that I heard was for a refrigerator. They are designed to keep
things inside them cool. If one is sold with no specific warranty then it
must continue to work "forever". Obviously a fridge will some day break
down--so the manufacture "limits" this by offering to service it for 5
years or some other time period. If, on the other hand, the client uses the
fridge as a pile driver--which is outside "normal" useage the "limited
liability warranty" is void.
