Hi Joe,
I see three options in your future.

1: Bush what's there with high quality cloth and see what happens.
2: Replace the key buttons.
3: = 1+2 (sometimes we guess wrong)

While it offends your tender sensibilities of what ought to be, I expect 
you wouldn't have any (performance) problems with just re-bushing them as is.

It's a bummer, ain't it?
