Strange bridge in a Steinway

Something to consider, on the " do they do any harm" side: A freshly
rebuilt Yamaha concert grand had an intermittent buzz in the bass. It was
eventually tracked down to a couple globs of varnish "bridging" between the
soundboard and the bridge in one of those hollowed out sections. Those
shallow tunnels under a bridge are just one more place for garbage to
collect and work invisible mischief.
