If the convention was small, it was not noticeable to me. All of the classes I attended (which were great) were well attended (25+). One tip I got from Lowell Wakker's Stability class was to use a pick (Old ivory head, or guitar pick) and pluck the strings with it in one hand and turn the pin with the other hand for trichords in a pitch-raise. Saves time as you don't have to mute the strings and can be done in 10-15 minutes. The concerts and receptions were jammed. Why not? they were exceptional! Was that you in the lobby, Terry, oogling the girls in their evening gowns? Food in the lobby cafe left a lot to be desired and the nearest restaurant was a fur walk. The exhibit area was small as far as I remember, but what it lacked in exhibitors, it made up with some awesome display of pianos especially some remodeled turn-of-the-century lavish S&Ss. All in all, I thought it was a great experience. Now I've got to get to work to pay for it before the credit card bills come in. I learned absolutely TONS of stuff. I think there is a very good likelihood that my 40-minute pitch raises will be a thing of the past, and I will get my average tuning time of about 75 minutes down quite a bit - all that will really help make my service calls more manageable and profitable. Del's technical class was, of course, excellent. I went to a similar presentation of his in Arlington and absolutely everything breezed right over my head - this time, a few very key concepts actually clicked for me. Hotel? I guess I don't get into the politics of these things, but it was a Hyatt - what can I say....... although the Miss Teen America pageant at the hotel made for a more interesting lobby experience! My room was there :-), bed had sheets :-), hotel was cold :-) and food was expensive :-(. How hot was it? Let's just say that when I got home to Tampa at 8 pm, it was 91 degrees. Del may have another take on ! > that, he mentioned that when he left home in Washington, it was 45 degrees! > > Excellent technical and social experience. > > Terry Farrell > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Cy Shuster" <charter1400@charter.net> > To: "Pianotech" <pianotech@ptg.org> > Sent: Monday, July 07, 2003 11:05 AM > Subject: How was the convention? > > > I'd love to hear some convention feedback. How was the turnout, both of members and exhibitors? Did the hotel treat us right this time? How hot was it?
