I am usually in touch with a few people
experimenting with tuning.

So, I usually respond,

"If price is your primary concern, I can refer you to
an apprentice that will do it for $25."
(we are talking Canadian dollars here)

They usually get the message.
Sometimes a pause, followed by a request to book me.
Sometimes they are insulted, "oh, thank you"...click.
It does makes them think about what they are doing,
offers them something, and occassionally books a
