Steel Memory was newbie question: stocking strings

Avery asks, with reference to a coil of wire bursting forth from the
container, "What is "splinging"? I love it! :-) It just about describes what
happens!"

It does, but there is another string of sounds which follow immediately
after the splinging. These cannot be repeated in polite company.

I think it is interesting that when you snip a string that has been under
tension for maybe 50-100 years it immediately curls up in the same fetal
position it occupied on the coil from the factory. Kind of explains why
steel is used for springs and why it is such a challenge to tie knots in
that stuff!
