Hi Terry, Tis well known that Beijing pianos only sound good around Beijing and than Shanghai Pianos only sound good around Shanghai. (good being relative to Chinese pianos only) From what I've seen it is a mixture of both compression and rib crowning but the factories are air conditioned by open or closed windows so naturally the pianos made in Beijing would have drier soundboards than those from Shanghai. (once again depending on how dry the timber was to start with) Regards Tony ----- Original Message ----- From: "Farrell" <mfarrel2@tampabay.rr.com> To: "Pianotech" <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2003 10:30 PM Subject: Re: Moving Damper Guide Rails > So did 5-generation engineer from NY pass onto YC the miracle of the compression-crowned-only soundboard also?
