If Arthur Grudko's suggestion doesn't work...
This works in many, but not all cases.
        1. Cut the glue/finish line where the guide touches the case.
        2. Drop or brush acetic acid or white vinegar along the line.
        3. Wait 5 minutes, repeat step #2.
        4. Wait 5 minutes, place a block of wood on the guide and tap =
the end of the block gently with a hammer as you move it =
along the guide. This should loosen it enough so you can wiggle it out =
cleanly.
...and, as he indicated, it may not always, just leave them in there. =
Trim them off flush with the surface and make proper glides out of brass =
bar stock. The only tricky part is drilling and countersinking the five =
equally spaced screw holes, but with a little practice it gets easier. =
You end up with an attractive music desk glide that is easily removable.

I need a way to remove the mortised Steinway grand music desk guide =
rails without splintering them in the process. Any suggestions?

  Thanks.
