I'll be interested to see the many different recommendations that you're bound to get on this request.  I doubt there's one "best" HT, but a good starting point would be Ed Foote's CD "6 Degrees of Tonality", available on the web at http://www.gasparo.com/recent.html   See which temperaments you like, and which ones you don't.  Then compare their data/graphs at Jason Kantner's site, look for similar temperaments to try.  Have fun!
