Hazen - I feel your pain! I have had back trouble also and the root
cause for me was weak hamstring muscles. Apparently most back problems
occur because the myriad of muscles that support the back get weak and
then something like a disc goes. But the real source is the musculature.
I got a book at our local health food store and I will get you the name
of it, but basically every day I do 15-20 minutes of what amounts to
yoga stretching exercises for my back.  I am short, and pulling actions
out of 9 foot grands is always a potential back-breaker for me, so if I
don't do the exercises, I feel it.  Don't get surgery! Get a second
opinion and/or get physical therapy or see a chiropractor before they
