> After all pianos were tuned the curtain was closed and they mixed up > the pianos so the audience of about three hundred could not tell who tuned > which instrument. > > After the tuning, the two technicians were asked to play a piece of music on > two of the instruments. We were asked to rate the tone and tune in a number > of categories such as unisons, octaves, fifths , temperament, general tone > ....as far as I can remember. In addition, I wonder how the scores would have been if the octaves, 5ths 4ths 3rds at were played chromatically as they are when the tuner listens for quality of tuning for fine and concert tuning? It was an audience of tuners, right? I can't imagine a concert tuning not being tested for double octaves and 12ths also. And then finally the unisons chromatically up. How many have heard or listened to a piano being played right before we are to tune it and it sounds great... only to find out upon tuning how many intervals are actually out? Also was there a choice that allowed, "Can't really tell" ? ---ric
