This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Thanks for the infos, Roger. I have some strips from renner , different thickness, and suspect them to be a tad noisy, not a very mellow material. I usually leave the cauls a few hours, but noticed that the sizing is not as stable as I like sometime. But as I use most often heated brass cauls, I guess the drying is faster (in surface anyway) Too hot cauls have given me problems too, hardening the felt too much. I am not really convinced by the sizing tool that can be used in an iron, and find the process a bit hard and unefficient. I'll take the idea of keeping the cauls in place longer (in fact I often allow for a night so it may be enough I guess) Regards, Isaac -----Message d'origine----- De : owner-pianotech@ptg.org [mailto:owner-pianotech@ptg.org]De la part de jolly roger Envoye : jeudi 5 septembre 2002 17:50 A : pianotech@ptg.org Objet : Re: key bushings At 07:15 AM 9/5/02 -0700, you wrote: Why 12 hours? seems like hot hide glue would set in just a couple of hours. Keith R Since there is a lot of water in the glue, you are sizing both the bushing and mortice, I like to leave cauls at least 24hrs, With rebuilding jobs I leave them 2 or 3 days. and have noticed a slight improvement in sizing.
