Squeeky jack spring??!

Jon,

You've already gotten some good things to check but while you're at it, I'd
also check to see that the wippen isn't rubbing the knuckle of the one next
to it when the key is played. You said a "rubbing" sort of sound, not 
"squeak",
so my mind went to where I've had those kind of problems.

While you've got the action pulled out, I'd go ahead and check to see if the
key has warped in the back a little, or was just not cut accurately, and is
rubbing the key end felt next to it slightly. Just some thoughts. Good luck.
Let us know what you find.

P.S. Another off-the-wall thought. Check to see that the spring you mention
that goes into the jack isn't too long and so the end of it rubs against the
back side of the jack. I don't remember the brand but I did find that one time
a long time ago. In Kawai, probably not, but it's always worth a look.
