fire damage

>From your description, the piano would need a complete rebuild. The soundboard, bridges, action frame, stack brackets, and rails MAY be salvagable - these will need a close inspection for damage and to make sure you can get the smell out - all these components may need replacement. Take the rim and keybed and ozone treat it until the smell is gone. Then refinish EVERYTHING. Sandblast the plate. Then rebuild the rest of the piano. My guess is you would end up with a real nice $50,000 Young Chang grand that has a slight toasted odor to it.

OR put new bass strings on it and sell it to someone that chain smokes - or to a smokey lounge!
