Hello all, I have been away from the list since changing my email address. I have a question to ask. Is the verdict in yet on smoke damaged pianos? I visited a Young Chang grand yesterday that has visible damage all over the action, corrosion on the strings, soot on the hammers and felt parts, and they say they have "cleaned it up" An individual donated this piano to a church after it was in the fire. The original owners want an appraisal for tax purposes, and the church wants the piano back in perfect shape (as cheap as possible) I have already decided not to take on the challenge. I don't have enough experience with smoke damage. I have read contradictory opinions. Some say the piano is in effect "totalled" Others say that you can't foretell if the corrosive chemicals will work into every part of the piano eventually. I would appreciate any insight into this scenario, because I at least want to give the church members an accurate overview. thanks so much, Pam Jenkins Southport, ME
