identity of Howard Grand ??

Pierce mentions that Howard was made by Kawai and later by Samick. 
As far as the knuckles are concerned, here are a few options:

Teflon powder rubbed into existing knuckles
Replace with Tokiwa knuckles (perhaps a better fit?)
Alter existing parts to accept Renner knuckles
