 Some do some dont.... at Bosendorfer I understand they used to get the guys installing pins to keep dipping their hands in powdered harpiks... or rosin... or something like that. I used to use shellack. But after all is said and done I get the feeling that if the holes are bored out carefully enough you dont really need anything at all. On repin jobs this means however you ream the holes has to consistant and leave the same kind of inner surface that a newly bored hole would.
