Joe, I saw the prototype of James Arledge's string winder in 1998.  I don't know what he is  doing now , but at that time he had a separate motor controlled by a computer at each end of the core wire.  Under computer control, any number of turns could be given in either direction and the speed of the two ends of the core at any point of winding could be controlled in any fashion desired. The question is what is desired?  I, for one support his program.  Since other string winders don't seem to care, why shouldn't we encourage him????
