In the future, I'll make my own sets. But even then, I'll still be 
facing the same two questions I now have. #1) Just how short can they 
be be (everything else be properly prepared) and still provide prompt 
damping in these tall uprights. The original was 1-5/8", new new 
Steinway and Yamaha big verticals are an inch longer. #2) Just how 
far from a 50-50% centering on the damper block can these felts stray 
and not fall apart.

Both of these articles originally appeared in the Journal, and are a 
part of my thinking.
