I read it as saying that there are definite and precise standards for ET,
and anything detectably deviating from perfect is demonstrably not ET,
while the range of acceptability of a temperament qualifying as meantone is
considerably broader than "undetectable"

A valid point, I think, and part of why I asked my question.
