Learning about Historical Temperaments

The standard I consider for learning about historical
temperaments is New Groves music dictionary, the article,
"Temperaments".   Also in New Groves are seperate articles
on Meantone, Equal Temperament and some of the names like
Werckmeister.
The bibliography is extensive.   New Groves can be found
many town libraries and most college and university
libraries.   It can be said, "If you haven't consulted New
Groves, you aren't serious about temperaments."      ---ric
