I use both. The Abel felt is a little more dense and lends a more "modern"
sound, whereas the Bacon felt gives me the older turn-of-the-century sound.
I think both are good, if applied to the sound/tone desired by the client. I
really like the option of this. I've been using Ronsen Hammers for many
years and find Ray is great to work with. He has always called me, (on his
nickel), if he had a problem with my specs., etc. On several occasions he
has really gone the extra mile and bailed me out of some sticky situations.
Both will lend to all voicing techniques. I don't like to lacquer, except as
a last resort. If you have chosen the proper hammer and the scale is proper,
you should not need to go to the extremes of lacquer, IMHO.
