Isaac, A disk sander is a useful power tool to have in the rebuilding shop. However, for hammer thinning consider purchasing the jig Bill Spurlock manufactures. It slides in the miter slot of your table saw and the cut is much cleaner, without the scorch marks or felt staining associated with the sander.
