Huh? $300-$400 sounds about right for the RETAIL price of a set of bass strings not including installation ( another $300 ), or return trips ( Regular tuning fee ). Seems like the last set of bass strings I bought WHOLESALE was about $180 to $200 including shipping and handling. ((To restring the entire piano, including the trips back to retune, is in the neighborhood of $1500 - $2000. >> Of course this should almost always include replacing the pin block if the piano is over 20 yrs old. Who can move a piano to their shop , remove the plate , refinish the plate, refinish or clean the soundboard, make nessessary bridge repairs, meticulously fit a new pinblock to the plate flange, fit plate, pinblock, install pinbushings drill pinblock , meticulously restring with tight even coils and even and approapriate pin height,Chip chip and chip again for $1500-$2000. Bottom line Your right. The old piano is probably not worth all that, but a new set of bass strings can make an enormous improvement in almost any used piano. Provided you don't lose your ass doing it for $300-$400. Joseph D. Gotta RPT
