Hi Isaac,
I don't understand why either, other than the compression crowning being
considered "traditional". Rib crowning is a far more predictable and
dependable method.

The panel is still dried down for crowned ribs, just not as much. Something
around 6%MC, so there is still plenty of compression in the panel. A rib
crowned board is every bit as efficient as a compression crowned board.
More so, in my opinion.
