Hello,

The stethoscope can help, as a big screwdriver that you put on different
places while playing the note, and that you hold on your ear ( automotive
repair trick) . You can use a hard wood dowel too.

You may have someone to help you.

Don't forget to wear a white suit and chirurgical gloves.

On verticals I have find screws stuck between soundboard and frame just in
front of the wrong bass notes, not easy to see.

Pushing on the board on different places can help to ascertain that there is
something unglued in ribs/bridge /soundboard system.

I too would like to learn how to find noises. My piano has a small rattle
that only happens on G# . I've fished under the plate for a long time,
tried knocking the soundboard, holding my hand on different places, and
still it rattles
  Gerald
