Grand plate clean-up

I have refinished a small grand and am now trying to make the plate look
presentable. I'm about at the point of covering strings and pin area and
repainting the rest. I'm putting in new base strings anyway so no danger
of getting them contamimated and ruined. 

What do you use to clean a dirty plate?
Other ideas that might help?
