I have restrung three small grands (less than five feet). I had David Sanderson rescale all of them and make the bass strings. All three rescaling resulted in adding up to five wound bicord notes. All three resulted in large improvements over the break. Still did not sound like a good Steinway D, but sounded excellent for any small piano. I will never restring a small grand without doing proper rescaling and using good bass strings.
