The newer silent grand piano design of Yamaha's has a shank stopper assembly which blocks the hammers from hitting the strings when the Diskclavier is on and the unit is engaged. The new ones don't have to have a wider let-off, because there is also a series of let-off bars which contact a little bump on the center of the jack toe. A really smart and effective set up if you ask me. They tune just like any other piano, you don't have to worry about that. The only thing about Diskclaviers is that you have to remove the unit to get to the right cheekblock, which I always do, because there's probably not one time that I don't want to get into the action to do some voicing or something. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phil Ryan" <pryan2@the-beach.net> To: <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Thursday, January 03, 2002 3:51 PM Subject: Silent piano? > List, > > What's a silent piano (Yamaha)?
