My SAT III sometimes gives inconsistent responses when I call on it to calculate pitch-raise overpull. A number of times I have had it indiate negative "overpull" then the note I am checking is plainly on the low side (lights spinning counter-clockwise). I always check for the plus sign in the left window. I always have the SAT redo the calculation in such a case, and make sure I am holding the reset button till the lights stop. I assume this is because of false beats or lack of clarity in the harmonic the SAT is listening to. A Kimball is a prime candidate for this kind of error. On such a piano, the lights may not stop to my satisfaction. Bill Maxim Maxim Piano Service 212 Newpark Place Columbia, SC 29212-8666 (803) 732-9225, FAX (803) 732-2641 wmaxim@aol.com
