I am installing a new soundboard in a 1910 5'10" model "O" Steinway. I will be using the ribs to create the crown, but I need to know what = radius. A local factory is going to attach the ribs to the soundboard = for me, but I need to give them the radius spec. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks, Ken Parsons Ken, Not surprisingly, no one's willing to take a stab at this. There is just = too much missing information. Without knowing much more about the "local = factory" and their methods of bellying, their presses, the control over = wood moisture content, etc., it is impossible to give you a direct = answer. There has, however, been a whole lot written about the subject on = pianotech. Just recently there have been dozens of posts on rib crowning = and soundboard bellying. Over the past year or two there have probably = been hundreds. Some time spent reading through some of these might be = helpful. Once you have some solid background information you will be = much better equipped to specify exactly what it is you want.
