My understanding was 50 cents flat is a 1/4 tone flat. 100 cents is
a 1/2 step flat. If I want to tune a piano to A442 I tune about 8
cents above A440...Chickering made a Quarter Grand that has
stamped on the plate: "International Pitch = 435" If I want to leave
that piano at 435 I tune it about 20 cents flat of 440.
